I did this on my 03 in combo with 6.5's in the sound bar (they fit), 8" sub in center console (wood box project on this forum) with amp under seat and new Kenwood head unit with AUX in on front to play phone or mp3. Plenty loud even with top off on highway ;-)
Just ordered mine with some speakers to go with it. Will update this post with pictures and short review once received.
Laser in action:
Probably a dumb question but I don't know **** about speakers.. Why would I rather have a 5.25" than a 4x6"?
5.25" speakers are round and will produce higher quality sounds versus an oval 4"x6". The aftermarket also offers a much wider selection of 5.25"s so you have more selection to choose from(and some are even less expensive than the same brand's 4"x6" model).
Basically, if it's time to replace your speakers you are better off putting in a 5.25" over a 4"x6" because the 5.25" is an all around better speaker for the money, it's bigger, and you are required to do the same amount of work(or less as is the case of these adapters) for installation.
If you have a 97-02 TJ there is a small piece of metal in the dash to snip out for installation. If you have an 03-06 it is a straight bolt on. Below is a write up done by a customer who owns a 97-02 model:
There is a lot more technical information as to why a 5.25" is a better choice, you are welcome to ask away...but for the average Jeep driver looking for better quality(or louder) speakers, this is the way to go.
Anyone else is welcome to chime in with a personal opinion of their new 5.25"s compared to the old 4"x6"s? :2thumbsup:
Sounds good. I recently replaced my sound pod speakers, now I notice how much the dash ones suck. After I get a few things buttoned up for a big trip next month I'll most likely place an order.
Mojave Road here in California. It's about 400 miles round trip of fast desert fun. We do it every year.
installed these a couple months ago in my 01 with some kicker 2 ways - super easy and fit like a glove!
Appreciate the update! What's your opinion on the Kicker's after a few months?
I'd like to eventually offer a package deal with speakers if I can find a popular brand to become a dealer for.
Hey those first pics looks familiar? LOL
Great Product. No mess. Just bolt your 5 1/4 speaker to it and put it in.
I had the 4" (Dash) and the 5-1/4 (Roll Bar) MTX's. The 4" started distorting after a few months and so did the 5 1/4 but not as bad. the range is 6watts on the low end for the speaker which the OEM radio dosen't always out out. So As you can see in the top pics, I replaced it with the infinity's which had a lower and higher range. Sound better and have not had the cracks as bad unless I crank it up!
Nalin = A+
