We just sold a double kit, 10:1 reduction. Customer could have gone up to a 25:1 reduction, but it would have been TOO SLOW. How often do you hear that about a drill press?
Some of our customers have been asking us about belt speed reduction versus VFD (variable frequency drive). VFD uses power signal adjustments and a 3 phase motor to infinitely vary the speed. The two main drawbacks are cost and torque. VFD requires a new 3 phase motor and the VDF box(expensive for most people) and is a constant torque system. When you cut the speed at a 5:1 ratio, you get no more torque. With belt reduction, you get 5X the torque. Both methods have their advantages and drawbacks.
