The long strut goes on the driver side.

Thanks Matt. I'll pm or call you if I have any questions when it comes time to install the skid. Thanks again

Hey Matt, do you have any plans of making bumpers for the XJs? Maybe a DIYT kit?

Any way you could do a truss like the D44 I bought off of you, but for a D30?

Sure there is... Are you looking for something just to mount the upper to for a 3-link front?

Kind of, yeah. But the more I think about it, maybe I should just go with a full front truss? I kind of bent my current one, so I'm picking up a HP30, and looking at options to keep it from happening again. I was thinking about sleeving it and maybe one of your trusses, but it might be easier to just truss it all the way.

Guess I need to get to work developing a full length TJ front truss...

I have a new used 2005 LJ Automatic (stock). I have a short wife and 2 small kids so a lift is not in the cards, it's hard enough for them to get into the stock

Just crawled underneath to look around and noticed it has skid plates(?) at about the driver position and back, I'm guessing from the factory. But no oil pan skid plate. Is that correct?

What are my options for removing the stock ones, replacing/adding more protection? This is a daily driver with a baby trail run maybe once or twice a year and a bit of off-road/disaster response stuff a few times a year.

I see this one:
Under Cover Fabworks, LLC - '03-'06 TJ/LJ Transfer Case Skid Plate (No Body-Lift Req'd)(Carbon Steel)

But doesn't that just replace what I have now from the factory(?), obviously better quality though.

I'm new to skid plates/under carriage protection so correct my ignorance please.

Sounds like you need this for the transfer case:
Under Cover Fabworks, LLC - '03-'06 TJ/LJ Transfer Case Skid Plate (No Body-Lift Req'd)(Carbon Steel)

and this to protect the engine:
Under Cover Fabworks, LLC - '03-'06 TJ/LJ Carbon Steel Engine Skid Plate (4.0l)

These are the steel versions. They represent the best value (3/16" TC skid is $50 cheaper than 1/4" steel) if you don't wheel it hard and don't already have it overloaded with other gear. This system will protect everything from the front of the exhaust to the rear of the transfer case. They work with everything else as stock.

Thanks,

The steel skid plates need to be cleaned, primed and painted. It would be bad to leave it bare!

Anything in particular you recommend in those three categories? My first non-electric mod to any vehicle. Help a newbie out

Wipe it with acetone or prep-all (wear rubber gloves), coat it with something like this self-etching primer from SEM (I buy it at the Carquest paint store), and coat it with your favorite color from a rattle can.

Edit: Be sure to let the primer cure for a couple hours. It looks dry in 5 minutes but don't be fooled. If you paint on top of it too soon it will scrape off easily.
