What color is your existing job, what color does friend have?

I did my interior in Desert Sand, he has the same. I was considering going to a darker grey or black because my interior is that funky diamond khaki color, and while the paint chip I got looked almost exactly matched, the finished color was just a lighter than the chip. Not bad, just not as close as i thought it would be.
As far as prep, though, pretty much the same as the original application over paint, huh? I was hoping Id get some slack on the elbow grease, but at least Ive done it once already!

Actually your scuffing is a bit more critical now because new coats of tintable will not stick to old without scuffing. You don't need to scuff it hard to remove texture, just dull it down well and scope out well for missed spots. Do not solvent wipe before vacuuming or it will be hard to see missed spots as the solvent will take away the whiteness from the scuffing

So, as far as shelf life, how long could his gallon have been sitting around and still be good to use?

The tint is no issue but you want to make sure there are no pigments settled hard in the can. Get a flat ended popsicle stick and scrape along the bottom of the can to check

Catalyst is no problem

Tintable gallon

I was going through my basement and found the 1 gal black kit I had ordered back in 2011. The gallon can was upside down, so I must have flipped it over at some time. I might just open it and see what it looks like in there

Press down and knock on the lid. Does it feel like there is hard stuff under there?
