I have the 9k. I installed it last week (finally!) and tested it out. Not a torture test, more to make sure I had it all wired up right, etc., but it had no trouble doing what I wanted it to do. Going trail riding this weekend, let's see how it works

I also have to admit that I had read that this winch was "loud". To me, it was quieter than I had thought it would be, but I also work around machinery.

yea I read that it was loud on another forum, but all in all that isn't something that I think I will care to much about. My only concern was the amp draw, but it's actually less than a warn at max load.

Yeah, I did a lot of research and had decided on superwinch. Than that article came along and I settled on Engo. So far, I'm glad I did

Now I need a winch cover. Engo hasn't marketed them yet, so I may buy another brand.

Thought I would share my first Engo winch story:

My friend and I were riding a local 4wheel park this weekend. This place is more known for UTV/ATVs than Jeeps, but they have "trails" for all. So, there we were cruising along on one headed toward a mud hole I knew of. Lo and behold a HUGE tree had fallen into the path, so we had to find another route.

My buddy says "I saw another trailhead a few yards back, it may swing around to the path we need". "Ok," I said, and off we went for the new trail head. We were going along there and the trail kept getting tighter and tighter, to the point I said to myself that we needed to turn around and find another route. My buddy, who we'll call "Adam" for the purpose of this story, decided to go forward instead of back to find a suitable place to turn around. I backed up a few yards and turned around myself and proceeded back to the trail head. After waiting for several minutes, some motocross riders came up the trail we were on. I asked if they had seen my friend, one of them (a young boy) said "yeah, we saw a jeep. He was stuck in a ditch and about to roll over the last time we saw him".

I jumped in my jeep and proceeded back down the trail as fast as I safely could. Once I got to him, sure enough, he had slid off the trail and was facing down a steep hill. He hadn't rolled, but was in quite a pickle. He was in a 1948 Willy's, with 33" tires, and stuck. First, I tried a snatch strap and that didnt work. Something had broken on his Willy's while he was out of my sight because he no longer had 4wd. His hubs (or something) had messed up. I knew this because my wife was watching as I was trying to pull him out and his front wheels were not rotating. That was a problem we'd have to deal with later.

This trail, unfortunately, was in a brush field, with only a small hickory tree near us. The only thing I could do was use a snatch block and my winch to get him out. Oh, and I forgot to mention that his Willys was stuck by a small sapling tree just enough to act as a chock for his front wheel. It was to close to use an axe on and I hadnt brought my camp saw (I will from now on!). So, I snatch blocked / winched it out with my 9k Engo winch. It pulled his a$$ out without even a yawn.

It is the best $289 I ever spent. Well, that and the $100 I spent on recovery gear. Just thought Id share my story so those that are thinking about this winch can hear from someone who's actually used it.

Good God, how biased could that test be? The Warn is broken, leaked, pulled it up the hill the least, but hey, it has a great remote..., and it finishes first? Engo should have won.....

Exactly...after that 4wheeldrive/magazine fiasco of a test in their July issue, I called Chris and ordered the 10k winch and he helped me locate a rough country mount which fit perfectly on my JK 2011 sport and a rough country cover to boot...thanks Chris.
