The Apex rear with tire carrier platform starts with the same great features offered by the original Apex rear bumper:
Increased departure angle and protection where you need it:
-designed to allow maximum ground clearance without the need to cut into the JK’s frame. It wraps around the corner just enough to protect this vulnerable area from impact when exiting an obstacle, but not so far that it hinders tire clearance during articulation. Bumper mounting requires only minor drilling and is then handled by 8 grade 8 bolts, 4 that are retained from the factory hardware and an additional 4 that are provided with the bumper.
Recessed LED Reverse Light:
-incorporates a recessed Rigid LED flush mount light. This platform allows the customer to dial in the amount of light they need for the rear of their vehicle. We run a diffused SR-M (2 LED) on our shop rig and it provides plenty of light for reversing even at night.

Recover Shackles and Retention of the Factory Hitch.
-3/4" thick shackle mounts pass through the face of the bumper and are welded not only on the outside,but also directly to the frame mounts of the bumper, ensuring that the shackle mounts are the strongest possible recovery point you can use. The bumper is designed with a cutout so that the factory hitch can be retained for those that wish to use this area to implement an additional d-ring mount or for towing.
Solution Plate Mounting:
The heart and soul of the tire carrier starts with a variation of our popular Solution Plate. This feature allows us to accomplish several different tasks and is what ultimately sets our carrier apart from others on the market. The Dimpled area:
1.) Provides the mounting for the tie-rod and UHMW cradle mount for easy, single-hand open and close just like factory.
2.) Allows the cabin vent to remain in place and out of the elements
3.) Adds rigidity to the mount, making it the strongest available mounting system
4.) Helps distribute loads to the tailgate as evenly as possible across all 8 mounting bolts, unlike other mounting systems that transfer the load to a single, smaller, area on a flat plate.
Bomb-Proof Hinge Assembly and Light Weight Arm:
Our carrier uses a CNC machined billet spindle from Summit Machine that is designed to accept two Timken tapered roller bearings. The spindle passes through the face of the bumper and is then tied into to the frame mount with a 3/16" thick plate gusset. The Spindle housing is sealed on the bottom with a Timken grease seal and a threaded aluminum cap machined with our logo takes care of sealing the top, providing years of squeak and rattle free operation.
The tire carrier arm is CNC laser cut from 2x3x0.120 wall tubing and then 10ga "fish plates" or plate gussets are welded on both the front and rear of the arm for the ultimate in strength and weight savings.
Our tire carrier allows the customer to adjust tire height up and down to accommodate for up to a 40" spare tire. This adjust-ability also allows the customer to dial in the final tire height to suit their own personal needs for center of gravity, departure angle, and visibility out of the rear window.
