Uconnect 5.0/RA2 no Sat Radio, dealer says impossible to add

My wife and I recently purchased a 2014 Cherokee. We test drove a sport that had siriusxm. And then decided we would get a Latitude model. The radio appeared the same and we didn't think twice that it wouldn't have sat radio capability. Especially since we were getting a higher trim level.

Well we were disappointed to first learn it didn't have it and then the dealer told us its impossible to add after the fact, and of course after we bought it. They told us to just stream it through our smart phone, sure that works but thats a lot of data in one month! And where we live coverage is spotty so that doesn't always work.

It seems some others are dealing with this. Does any one think there will be away for it to be added?

I just wanted to see if there are any Uconnect savy members on here that might have some insight...

I am hoping everything is just to new and hopefully there will be away.

I have a 2008 Rubicon with the Mygig/Nav. I have been considering the lock pic system for it and I am hoping if anything they will be able to unlock the 5.0 and all of its features Chrysler decided to keep locked up for some reason.

Call another dealer or parts department and ask. If the answer is still no then I would just buy and external satellite unit and use that. I find some salesmen don't actually know everything and often give the wrong answer, so definitely check with someone else. My latitude has the 8.4 so it came automatically with sat.

Yeah we will probably just have to add the external unit, its just frustrating that a nearly 30,000 dollar vehicle in 2014 doesn't have the ability. The problem, I guess my fault, is that I didn't ask the salesman, I did my own research and the Chry. Uconnect site clear states it has sirius xm capability, it has a little star next to it, but when you click it just states you have to pay for the subscription, not that it is not available on all models....

I can't believe it's not sat ready. Like I said, call someone else. If it says say ready I bet it is. Good luck to you.

If it is Sirius capable you should be able to pull the information thru the uconnect system, Hit controls, then settings then look to see if you have Sirius xm setup as an option.

After a few emails back and forth with Chrysler they are saying its a no go and they are standing by the fact it can't be added.

You will see the first thing says is that the radio has it, they then just say it can't be added....

Luckily Sirius was more helpful, they sent us a free radio kit for our car (I have two other subscriptions with them so they were happy to keep me happy)... Wife isn't happy about all the extra wires that will be hanging around but its better than nothing I guess. Sirius also gave me a few months of free service for the trouble.

I am betting I can order a Sat antenna from Jeep with in the next year, plug it in to the Uconnect and the feature will work, at least Im hopeful....

Our website shows the following information:
INTEGRATED SYSTEM with a hi-res 5.0-inch touchscreen, integrated voice
command with Bluetooth and SiriusXM Premier+

Included Features
?Hi-res 5-inch touchscreen
?AM/FM radio
?Auxiliary, USB and SD Media Hub with iPod mobile device integration
?Integrated Uconnect Voice Command with Bluetooth Streaming Audio
?Hands-free calling and texting+
?Integrated center stack+
?Speed-adjusted volume

Available Features
?Wireless charging pad+
?SiriusXM Premier ? more than 160 channels (includes a 12-month
subscription)
?Single-disc remote CD player
?ParkView Rear Back Up Camera+

The available features have to be added to the vehicle when it is
manufactured from the factory to have the capability. They cannot be
added as an aftermarket to work with the system. When our vehicles are
manufactured they are hardwired to the UConnect system, therefore making
it impossible to add or upgrade the unit.

We apologize we cannot provide a more favorable reply.

Thank you again for your email. Should you require additional
assistance, or have any new information to provide, please reply to this
email message or call 1-877-I-AM-JEEP (1-877-426-5337).

Sincerely,

Kristine

Try taking it to the dealer and see if they can activate it in the radio, it will cost your $100 or so though. People with the same radio have added the backup camera on ram's and all they had to do is have the dealer activate it, I would guess they sirus option would be the same way.
