9 speed transmission seems like a marketing thing. "Hey, buy out car because it has more gears and more is always better!"

The good old 5spd auto in a Civic averages upper 30s and I doubt an extra gear or 4 would make it any better.

Hopefully you guys see an improvement.

It is not getting better, it's getting worst!

Bought 14.135 gallons of gas yesterday. Total for the tank is 23.2 MPG in 12:35 hours. I traveled 317.2 miles. Using the pencil method it is 22.43 MPG.
Total since I bought the Jeep: 2223.3 miles @23.3 MPG in 79.32hours.

I WANT 27MPG! And if I am only going to get 22 and a half MPG then give me a 22+ gallon tank. Stopping for gas every four days in a car that was supposed to get 31 advertised MPG is terrible. @ 31MPG with a 15 gallon fill up I should be getting 465 miles out of a tank, not 315!!! JEEP, you shorted me 150 miles out of each tankfull. Thinking I may have made a mistake and kept with Fords.

You have a 4WD according to your listed vehicle and the 4WD models are not rated at 31 MPG highway. The 31 MPG is for FWD 4 cyl models only and that is for all highway as well. No city mixed in.

The 4WD ratings are...

2.4L ADI = 21/28 with a 24MPG average for mixed driving
2.4L ADII = 21/27 with a 23MPG average for mixed driving

Sounds like you are getting just what is advertised for the vehicle you have listed at 23-24 MPG for mixed driving. Unless all of your driving is on the highway your MPG seems spot on to me? IF your driving is all highway it could still reasonably be expected to be down around 23-24 if you drive 75 MPH+.

I know, I know... I started out wanting a 6 cyl with active drive II. When I looked at the milage I changed my tune to the 4cyl with active drive I. With tthe 60/40 mostly highway I thought I would get better than 22. That's all.

So your complaint boils down to you're getting advertised mileage for your vehicle, but you want the mileage of the other model you didn't buy.

The advertised MPG is 28 Highway and 22 City with an average of 24MPG. I drive more highway than city. I don't stomp the pedal and use the adaptive cruise. I'm getting a true 22.4 MPG. So MY complaint boils down to I'm NOT getting advertised mileage for my vehicle.

I have never seen 9th gear and occasionally see 8th around 70 MPH... Maybe it's that?

Slow down to 55 and I bet you get that 28mpg, my lifted toaster on wheels (XJ) gets 22mpg highway regularly if I drive 55-60mph but any faster I only average 15 or so.

The company I work for has a 2013 Ford Escape, FWD, 4 cylinder and it only gets 22mpg on the highway (70 to 75 mph). I think it is rated for 30 mpg.

I bought gas again today... Crappy 15 gallon tank...

I bought 15.62 gallons for 346.1 miles that the EVIC says was good for 24.5 MPG. The gas lasted 12:39 hours too. Much better and I did not go anywhere different. Using the pencil method it is 22.15 MPG

Globally since I bought the jeep I am at 24.3 MPG in 92:12 hours for a total of 2569.6 miles.

Don't even think about calculating MPGs until an engine has a few thousands miles on it. New engines are not even close to being broken in until then. They "loosen" up considerably there after.

Only then should you calculate MPGs.

If Jeep aftermarket ever comes out with a bigger tank I will be the first in line!

Bought gas today. I bought 13.63 gallons for334.9 miles that the EVIC says was good for 25.3 MPG. The gas lasted 10:34 hours too. Using the pencil method it is 24.56 MPG

Globally since I bought the jeep I am at 25.3 MPG in 102:47 hours for a total of 2901.6 miles.

2 things...

1 - if you add a larger gas tank you add weight( weight of the gas itself - approx. 6lbs p/ gallon +/- ) and adding weight will reduce your MPG. According to the EPA for every 100lbs of weight you add to the vehicle MPG suffers upwards of 2% and effects smaller vehicles more than larger ones( Cherokee isn't very big ). If you are already upset with your MPG it would actually hurt it some( a lot no but some yes ).

2 - just curious and not meant offensive but why do you include the hours with your MPG reports? The time has no bearing on the MPG. Gallons and miles is it. I know the display shows the time but it is irrelevant to your MPG.

This link gives some very good info on how to drive more efficiently. Give it a look and see if any of it may help you out. When I did and started following that stuff my MPG went up a lot. I can get 30-31 MPG with ease/regularly in my Patriot all highway following the info from that link and it is only rated to 26. I have seen as high as 35 MPG from it( hand calculated ). It has some really good info...
