Hey guys! I moved to Sacramento from SoCal in august and my NP231 is in dire need of a rebuild. Would any of you be willing to walk a noob through the process? I really want to do this myself not only because Im a poor college student, but because I really like to work on my own vehicle. I have had bad luck with mechanics.....

Big time rattling sound coming from it while rolling. It seems as though, from what I can find, it's chain growth. But I'm not sure. :/

If you were closer to me I would happily invite you over so we can crack the thing open and find the culprit. What does the fluid look like? Is there fluid in there?

There are two hex plugs on the back of the 231 case. Remove the top one and stick your finger inside. You should get a good amount on your finger and see if there is any red coloring left. You'll probably need to change it soon but make sure its topped off with automatic transmission fluid so you can at least drive.
