Off roading laws in Germany?

I've been living in Germany (Trier area) for about 2 years now and I can't seem to find the guidelines for off roading on the land around here. Is it illegal to offroad at any random trail I find, given it doesn't have a sign showing no entry? I've been itching to go off road and I don't feel like getting a ticket and having to hand it over to my 1st Sgt,That'd be crappy.

Hi @flnbar

If you live in Trier area, you're not so far away from me. I live in Koblenz area, round about 75 miles away from Trier.
At first: In Germany it is illegal to go offroad, if it isn't alowed with signs. Only on special areas we can do offroad trails. If you meet people in the forrest, when you drive a little trail in the Eifel near you, and they are afraid of what you doing, they call the police or forrest guard.
But I think there is something for you!!
Look at this link: http://jeep-community.de/showthread.php?t=4186

Some jeeping people (me included) meets on sunday, 02.22.2009 at camp4fun near Nürburgring (about 35 miles from Trier) If you interested come with us and you will see a lot of jeeps!!

We will be happy to meet american Jeepers!!!

Here you see camp4fun and some of the german jeepers:

That's me on the wooden bridge:

Hey bro, I'll be in Germany for another five months. I've been to several places in France & Germany. Send me a P.M. and we'll get together or I will show you where we go.
