also to add.. there are many more photos to come.. my camera broke right after i got the frame mocked under the body.. i have since cut the floor out for the tranny and t-case, built the tranny cross member and engine mount/cross member.. i should have the engine sitting by itself with out any help from the hoist later tonight.. ill see if one of my dorm buddies doesn't have a digital camera i cant borrow for 3 seconds and get some snap shots all the new..

If you're going to school for welding, can you get any school credits for all this fab you are doing?

Great job with this project man, Trucks! Cheap Cherokee has nothing on this XJ. This one is just simply amazing. Being a fellow college student i know how little money there is to do all of this, especially you keeping this so low cost wise. Cant wait to see future postings. Keep it up man.

Awesome work man, im also 19 and wouldnt even dream (well i can dream) of pulling a job off like this. I am also in school and know how much not having money puts a strain on jeep building. My jeep gets the most mods done to it during the summer also.

I will be keeping a close eye on your build cause it is going to look awesome

absolutely!! Weld 3, Metal fabrication.. there are quite a few guys that just use it for a hobby shop.. $20 bucks a credit in state tuition.. weld 3 is a 3 unit class so it'd be like 60 bucks for one class.. dont have to buy consumables for plasma cutters... dont have to buy gas for the welders... dont have to buy rod, or wire... access to all the tools... each class is 3 hours long..
tuesday thursdays i have welding from 9am to 9pm..

ESPECIALLY with the MIG process.. it might look great but penetration is key and thats where most MIG welds fail.. didn't have the machine set up quite right and it didn't penetrate like it needed to.. sure does look good though, lol ya know what im sayin??
i guess what im tryin to say is yes im 19.. but im in no way a newbie to the metal fab environment..
I grew up around my Grandfather's repair/body shop (12 repair bays and decent size body shop...there was a lot going on to look at!). That's clearly where I developed my interest in cars and I got to learn a lot of different things. I've been MIG welding since I was about 17 but never really got to do a ton. Fabrication, other than small projects, is something I have always really wanted to do but never got the chance really. I know what you're saying about good looking welds that aren't worth anything though . I actually just picked up a practically new Miller MIG from a friend who needed some $$, and hopefully i'll have my own garage to use it in by years end!

Anyway, keep up the good work!
