That is what I will be doing to mine.

You can buy (or make) little stubby flush mount clevis tabs that are basically just what you see on the surfaced, or you can buy longer bodied mounts that go thru the front and the back allowing you to weld them in with more area.

You probably could have started with 6" wide box tubing instead of 4" based on the size of the bumper area, but in the least you will need to get some 1/8" or 3/16" flat stock to make panels to fill the gap. It's a good start, just make sure the ends don't stick out past the body lines or you will create a snag point wheeling etc.

Yeah.. the JKs have a large "void" to fill once that stock rear bumper (and front for that matter) is removed. May have worked better to use 2x8 instead of 2x4.. that would've filled up a good portion of that open area above the current bumper.

What did you use for the mounting setup?

I havent done the mounting setup yet I will figure that out later tonight.
I didn't know how big the stock bumper was until I took it off. But 2x8 would be hitting the tire.

I personally saw the bumper he is working on today, Im sure once he is done it will look great. His welds look solid and he grinds it all down to the point where it looks like it was never cut and welded, just one solid piece. Im I will ask for his help when it comes time to build a rear bumper for my xj.
