I am in the process of doing a light bar like your thats all aluminum and the sides are machined out of solid stock, the top bar will be 2 x 3 that will house the lights.

Any chance you'll do a build thread on it? I really like the aluminum idea, but guess I'd have to add a spool gun to my welder and learn to weld aluminum first.

Will do. Looking forward to seeing it! Getting ready to buy the steel to make one of these versions with my own twist on it maybe, but will hold off to see your aluminum version.

I made one 2 years ago for my TJ, aluminium 50x50 and 50x25mm, using existing windsheild screew holes..6x50W was to much for my battery, changing now to LED....

Any updates on your aluminum version? I have found the lights I am going to use. I was able to find some suitable LED heads from a good friend that deals in emergency lighting equipment (fire, police, etc.) They are sealed weather proof units that are used for the takedown lights in many LED police light bars. If anyone isn't familiar with what the "takedowns" are, they are the two center mounted steady burn lights that blind you in your rear view mirror after you have been pulled over. I don't have the exact dimensions in front of me, but they are just over 1.5" tall and around 4 or 5 inches wide. I plan to use 6 just like Rinking did with this one. These LEDs are quite a bit more expensive than the kit he used, but the drastically lower amperage draw and crazy lumen output are well worth it. I'll add it to my build thread once I finally get started on it.

visionX makes a pretty sweet 52 inch light bar, LED, super bright, but very spendy. similar idea to yours, lots of light, low profile for clearance.

"The stoke was palpable..."

good grief, just buy the Rubicon.
