Where's the Metal (NW Ohio)?

I'm getting ready to start into welding still haven't decided TIG, MIG, or Stick but I would like to understand where to get the raw materials. I’m near the Toledo, Ohio area and was hoping to find a local place that I can pick up metals (sheet metal, tubing, etc.). Not sure if anyone is in the area and had some suggestions. If not, maybe the yellow pages? This will also help me gauge some costs once I pick up a welder and all the parts...

Yellow pages..local swap papers...newspapers..alot of times those papers will have a dedicated section for people like scrap yards and steel suppliers to advertise there.

You can even stop by a few local weld shops or fab shops and ask them where to get materials, alot of times these fab shops will have huge dumpsters full of scrap and may let you take what you want for scrap to practice on.
With the prices of fresh steel materials these days,i get inventive on where to find steel at a good price or scrapped.

With the number of machine shops in the area I would suggest figuring out what it is you need and stopping in or calling a few of them. You might get what your looking for out of a scrap bin they have for dirt cheap.

If your looking for good, new, specific sized steels that you want to purchase from I think benjamin steel is one of the cheaper suppliers in town.

We get most of our stuff from Alro because we need high quality and usually need it fast..but we also pay for it.

Thanks for the advise. I'll try a few of the local machine shops, weld shops, etc. and if not I'll try Ben steel company.
