What thickness of steel?

Im planning on building a front bumper this winter, sort of similar to the arb bumper construction. Not fully boxed in, and i was wondering what would be a good thickness of steel to use, that will have enough strength but doesn't double as an anchor.

3/16 is the general concensus around here. That is what I would use.

I'm building one this week...I removed the front bumper and plan on using a piece of 3/16 channel and welding it between the inner rails, then welding on a hoop for the front..

Nice job with the bumpers. Though I thought it will be bigger. Very nice.
