Well the stock "low boy" cart sucked! Added the handle and then caged the welder to make a platform. Inset the side so I can still lift the lid for wire replacement. Going to make a tray to sit on top to hold small hand tools.

Yeah the tray on mine is great. No more walking back and forth to the shed or digging through a bucket to find tools.

looks good. I'm going to start a cart this week at work on my spare time. I will take pics and post them up for all to see. You said you would lower it some and also widen it. How much lower and wider do you think you should of went?

Are you asking me or one of the others???

Personally, I would go at least 3" wider on each side of the welder.

Gotcha,
For mine I need to go on off angle terrain with the cart. If your staying in a garage the cart width is fine.

Yeah we do alot of welding outside the garage, in the yard and such.

so I think it will be ok a little wider.

Yeah if I had the space in my shed I would have widened my garden cart too.

Rusty,

Did you ever finish your cart? If so do you have any pics of the finished product? I have decided to go with a Hobart 187 and would like to build a cart that I can have the welder and a plasma cutter on. I think yours would be perfect to house both. You have stated that you would have made it a few inches wider, would 18" wide (overall) be enough? I like the concept and I think I would like to make a version of yours with a few extras. Thanks.

Check out post 14 in this thread. That is basiaclly the final product. I have yet to paint it. The only thing I will be adding is a front handle to pull it with. And yes, 18" would be a good width. I ended up moving the front caster wheels outboard of the frame of the cart. I will try to get some pics of that for ya.

Though I would post up a few pics of my welding cart. Nothing fancy a rectangular box on wheels with some wood Hey it works and its done.

Welding cart V2.0, (V1.0 sucked and got cut up into pieces. )

Made from bed angle iron, caster, lawn mower wheels, and part of the lawn mower handle.
