Want to buy a decent auto darkening welding helmet without spending too much

Looking into buying a decent auto darkening welding helmet but don't want to drop a ton of money into it.

Any advice what I need to look for in a good helmet?

For your basic hobbiest the the Kobalt helmet from Lowes is ok. $125. I have a miller elite series but I also weld just about every day.

I'm a once-in-a-while welder, I bought a HF auto darkener for like 34 bucks while its on sale, and so far it's worked great for me.

Its on sale now

I am in love with my Miller digital elite. If you have money and you are going to weld kinda often, it is well worth the $275 i spent

Looking to spend around $100.00 give or take.
I am a weekend welder at best but am looking into getting a plasma cutter as well.
Is there something out there that can be used for both?

I bought this one for 73.00 shipped to my door a while back,VERY happy with it for the price..this is a different seller than i bought it from,i looked at the same seller i got mine from and they have them no more..but for around 67.00 + shipping to you're area would be still be a good price for the features it has.
I just used mine at work last thursday to Plasma cut some bolt holes that were wrong on structural and it worked great.

Read through that link to the thread i posted, lots of good info for what you are asking

Did some research and alot said the Northern tool for $50.00 was good. So, I ordered one. Been used for a wk and have to say they are very good, better than alot of expensive helmits. Good luck and take care

This one is pretty good for the price Welding Helmet Striker CF | USAWeld.com
I got mine about 5 months ago, works well, adjustable shade and reaction time, no batteries to replace, and only $75
The best part is that I actually use it and don't do the "Blink and Tack" thing anymore!!!

I use the Sellstorm face shield for my plasma cutting & a Miller helmet for welding which is above the your 100.00 budget. I had a NT 39.99 special that didn't last me 6mo.

Ironworker, thanks for the link.
Guess I should have searched a little before starting this thread.
Either way, lots of great information and thanks to everyone for posting.
