This is how she is looking right now. No rear axle.

I hit a little bit of a snag. I was planning to do suspension work. However, while the suspension was out I decide to look at a very small tranny leak. I found a crack.

Congrats on the boy! How do you like the heims on the steering? Did you use a ball joint on the pitman arm? I am working on my high steer now and I have the Poison Spyder arms too.

I am impressed that people are commenting on a 5 year old post! The heims work good. I have never broken any of them. I replaced them a couple of years ago because of all the internet hearsay about the the longevity of heims. My biggest problem with my steering is I bought a used hydraulic assist ram. It leaks like a sieve.

I like the PS arms too. I bought mine with the 1" taller keyed spacer. That has helped clearance issues with the front leaf springs a bunch.

The pitman arm is a stock YJ arm with a TRE. The TRE worries me a bit. I found one that has the jeep taper and has a Ύ”-16 tpi shank. I bought it from an online 4 wheeling business that is long gone. The TRE has no identifying part number or manufacturer. I think it is a stock application some ½ ton application, but I have no clue the make or model. I wish I did because I would like a spare TRE.

Does anybody know what the jeep taper is? Everybody just refers to it has the stock jeep taper.

I bought my arms used but they came with the 1" spacers too, What size of heims did you use?

E Rock, are you using mis-alignment spacers on the steering? Do you have a link for teh heims you used?

Thanks

I am using the run the 3/4" shank, 5/8" bore QA1 XM series (XMR10-12). I run small spacer below the heim and run a safety washer above the heim. The idea of the safety washer is if the ball pops out from the heim, the washer will catch it.

Do you think it would be better or help to rub mis-alignment spacers on the top and bottom?

You shouldn't need any mis-alignment spacers on the tie rod. It goes straight across. I would only put the smallest spacer needed to make sure there isn't any interfences with the drag link or springs when steering goes lock-to-lock.

You should use some mis-alignment spacers and a safety washer on the drag link to account for suspension flex.
