when I build mine (tubes with 3" flare) I was planning on reusing the inner fender and sheetmetal, would be really nice to get some specific measurements and specs.

well i decided to try it out. i ended up cutting everything off but the inner fender and top. i then had some tube bent and made my side pieces and went to town.

im down with one and will be working more on the other one next weekend. just have to do mock up, tacking then fully weld that one.

will post a build thread most like when i am done....

Here is a pic of mine. i used some conduit from home depot and a small pipe bender then trimmed the door edge with angle iron and did all the body work.

You used conduit? how has it held up? did you weld it to the sheet metal?

its held up fine, the only issue i had was that i didnt weld where it meets the fender on the firewall side that well and it broke free easy fix though

Everyone always makes these with the straight line sharp cut upper rear corner of the opening. If I ever do this I'd make the top outer tube nicely curve bend downward and go to the rocker guard. A square cut hole to accommodate a round tire seems like it was a quick field fix, a rushed design.

The bought ones that include a flare section are usually more what I'm talking about.

i agree but seeing as how i did the angle iron down the side to prevent tire cutting i did it this way. im happy with how it looks and stuffs and i have not had any issues to date other than me not doing a good enough job on the welding in one spot.
