Transfer case Skid plate idea...

Hey DZP! if you want to know something really specific that would help tons of jeepers?? Make a skidplate for the transfer case and all of that but make it two piece. One that bolts up and is the direct support for the transfercase and all the other goodies. And then the second piece be the actual skid plate that will bolt to that support. That way when your working on your rig you don't have to fight with the transfer case skid plate, and you could sell replace able skids instead of the whole mechanism.

I think you get what i'm saying, right?

There's is one other company making them but its a little pricey.

I will definetly look into that this weekend. Sounds like it will take some design time, but thanks for the great idea!!!

Maybe I can work in some more ground clearance while lowering the TC some for a slightly better DS angle.

Thanks again bro. You willing to test one out for strengh? Bang it up some??

I did a seperate crossmember and skid plate. welded tabs to the inside frame rails and then bolted a piece of flat bar w/ tube and rubber shackle bushings to those. removed orig. tranny mount and just bolted tranny to flat bar. I also wanted to be totally flat underneath but couldn't do it. I have 1"MML, 1"BL, and a clocking ring and still couldn't clear the bottom of the framerails. I ended up w/ an alum. skid that is 1" below the bottom of frame. Way better than the factory 4". This also took a bit of exhaust work-had to cut and reweld a 1.5" peice of exhaust down pipe from in front of tranny to next to tranny. Depends on the engine and tranny as to whether or not you can do this w/o major body lift and keep drive line angles cool. If I wanted to be flat, i would have to do another half inch of BL and another inch of MML

And besides Funk, somebody does. 33 engineering just came out w/ a TJ model. I'm sure you'll be next.

'95,2.5L,3spd,3.5",32s- fewer and fewer stock parts left.

I am shooting for a 1" - 2" better clearance than stock. Dont want to have to modify anything, although some holes will have to be drilled in the frame. The crossmember itsself doesnt seem very difficult, but the making the skid so that it does not interfere with anything will be a bit harder.

slow. Hoping to test fit something in a week or two on my TJ. After that I need to find several different years and trannies and such to be sure its compatible. Almost finished my RTI rack this W/E. Took most of my time though. TC skid is next though.......

I need some dimesions. First I need the spacing and size of the stock TC bolts. I also need the distance across the frame rails, inside to inside, out to out, and hole to hole. I've got mine on a 97 TJ, but I want to get as many as possible for all makes and models with all different trannies. That includes TJ's, YJ's, CJ's, XJ's, ZJ's, WJ's, ect.....

Then I need the distances and spacing of the mount itsself.

I also need some pics of the underside of all of them. I want to make it as universal as possible so that I can keep the cost down...
