Tj frame patches + flux wire welder?

I posted this on the TJ forum, thought it might get a better answer here. My frame on my TJ is starting to rot out at the driverside trans skid plate. I was told never to do frame welds with my 90amp flux wire welder. However I called up autorust and was told their patches are only 1/8". This welder can and has welder 3/16th, Could I get away with using my baby welder?? At least for a temp solution?

Yes, the frame is only 5/32 thick or .156.
