Tire carrier options

So I'm thinking I want to build a swing out carrier for my jk similar to the genright design, basically a cage that swings on the factory hinges and attached via pins to mounts on a plate on the passenger side.

Anybody build one of these? I think I have the design mostly sorted, but the sticking point is how to reinforce the factory hinges.

Some of the TJ tub-mounted carries have a bracket that sandwiches the tub and is then bolted to the factory C pillar rollbar mount. That might be a simple way of reinforcing the mount. You could do that on both sides. passenger side for the hinge, and driver side for the latch mount.

That would keep the tub from crunching inwards if you caught the tire on a rock.

im building one for my TJ...im modeling it after the evo offroad carrier. I have corner guards so Im welding my hinges to them. I dont think it will cause any issues.

i will have a build thread started in the next week once i have more progress

Yeah, I like their setup. Seems like I can make something to utilize the existing hinge mounts though, save a little weight. Any little helps on a JKU...."
