Tire Carrier/ Corner Armor build

I wanted to build a different tire carrier, that would be quieter than the single spindle carriers. I saw a few designs, but they were not as functional. So i set off to fab up my own!

These started as flat sheets of 3/16 coldroll

A little plasma cutting later!

glad i saw this...

i was contemplating doing something similar. now i know i want to keep the carrier closer to the tub and mount the tire on the outside like the Or-Fab one.

is that 2" tube?

looks like it'll do the job!

I like the design, have you considered a couple of jerry can carriers? Nice job, Ron

I have a similar build in the works, but my tubing runs flush along the back of the Jeep and the tire off of that.

What do you have planned for support behind the tub?

I am going to make a hi-lift mount, and a mount for a ammo can. I have never needed extra fuel, i really don't go on long distance runs.

I am going to add 1/4 plates to support the top bolts, other them that I used some big washers to spread the load. It fells solid so far.

A 6" steel pipe is the same radius as the corner of the jeep. I used a torch to heat it, and then bent it around the pipe

I am wondering if you are planning on putting in any reverse lights? If so, what are you thinking of doing?

I have the wiring all set up for a reverse light. I am looking at the led light pods, like a rigid dually

SonicR1 02-14-2014 06:22 PM

I had to cut out my side bars because they blocked the rear lights too much...

Your carrier looks weird because you need to turn the tire around to face the back
