Swing Out Finished!

OK-
I finally finished the Swing out tire carrier and bumper. My garage has been a machine shop for the last two months b/c I could only work on it a hour or two at a time.
The first welds I did weren't pretty, but as the project went on they got much better.
I don't really like the front bumper, but it will probably look much better once a winch is intalled.

Materials-
3/16 wall 2x4 Rectanhgular tubing for bumpers
3/16 wall 1.5" square tubing for carrier frame
3/16 wall 1x3 rectangular tubing for swing out arm
Hinge is 1" trailer axle spindle inside of a custom machined steel cylinder with the bearing races pressed in. Spindle came from Tractor Suppy Co. and the bearings and races from Auto Zone.
Front bumper is mounted using 1/4 plate.
I recycled the mounting plate from the factory spare tire carrier and welded a 1/4" reinforcing plate to the back.
I also recyled two of the factory anti vibration rubber bumpers to make one for the middle.
The anti-dust cap for the hinge is a rattle can top. (I know it is a redneck thing to do, but, hey it works and you wouldn't know itf I didn't tell )
Tralier hitch reciever also came from tractor supply and is wleded into a notch cut in bumper with a 1/4" reinforcing plate with holes for saftey chains welded along the bottom.
Clevis tabs are 1x2 steel plate welded through the bumper (front and back).
Finish is good old Rustoleum satin black.

Looks good. I like the swing out. I just finished mine again, broke the first one. But I was trying to figure out where to put the hi-lift. I like how you've got yours set up, might do mine like that now.

Not ragging on you here but those welds look kinda cold. Fine for the carrier but the shackle brackets look like they don't have much penetration. Are they welded on both sides of the bumper?

Yeah they are welded on both side and yeah they look funky. Being that I taught myself to weld, I appreciate your question.
I think I got good penetration.....I went really slowly and let each part(bumper tube and tab) puddle really well before moving on. I may have gone slowly enough to make the weld bead sit up like it does. Any idea of how to conduct a stress test without losing any body parts or limbs in the process?
