stock cage question

Are the B and C pillars on the stock TJ cage sufficient to build off of? I am going to build an A pillar that connects to them. will they hold up?

nothing wrong with the stock b pillar. it is 2 1/4" tubing mounted to the strongest part of the body with the largest foot. it is very common to start with this and build out wards.

B and C pillars are definitely a good place to start. They are 1/8th wall (.120) HREW. I'm building a PSC Trail cage off my B and C pillars soon.

Sure, it's plenty strong, I've rolled mine twice and it's held up fine. That is with some extra bracing though.

why don't you just take the b pillar out and use it as a template to make the new one out of moly or d.o.m? I'm sure using the stock one will work. I would just make a new one out of moly just for my state of mind because every time your going to roll over your probably going to think is it strong enough. just my 2 cents.

The stock B pillar will work just fine. MANY members here and in the offroad world use them day in and day out with added supports as part of a cage with NO ISSUES.

a) That is absolutely unnecessary.

b) "every time", the idea is to keep the rubber under the rig, and what you are going to be thinking is: Oh ****!

I'm not saying the stock one will not work at all. I'm just saying I would feel more comfortable with a b pillar made out of moly or d.o.m. ya, you would be saying that to.lol

Lots of stock roll bars used as the base for a full cage.. no problem. Might want to weld the 3 piece main hoop together. If someone has a nice "add-on" to the stock cage, I have no problem taking a tumble with them.
