Sheet metal top for roll cage

So what gauge material is everyone using to make the sheet metal top for a custom roll cage and whats the best way to mount it so it doesnt rattle?

I'm going for something simple like this.

Depends on how much weight you're willing to put up there.
If it were me I'd put bolt it to tabs with countersunk machine screws.
Here is a chart for weights and thicknesses of sheet metal. Hopefully this helps.

Thatís exactly how I would do it too although I would use aluminum instead of sheet metal; probably 1/8-inch.

Get some UHMWPE, doesn't rust, rattle, corrode or transfer heat to you hand when you touch it and puncture proof. Oh and easily machinable.

There is a guy who builds cages for these utv things next to my welding supplier and he uses aluminum and this insulator underneath the aluminum. He says it stops rattles and lowers the heat from the sun. It looks like foam sandwiched between two layers of some thin plastic. the insulator is probably 3/16" thick and the aluminum is probably 14ga (.080" ish)

I've also used expanded mesh. Easy to form and you can tack weld it to all the tubing. It allows a good overhead view while still casting plenty of shade from the sun.
