semi snorkel

i was thinking of getting a snorkel for my tj, but wasnt to excited about cutting the hole in my shell in case i ever took it off. also, i've heard from many people that it interfears with taking the doors off. i got to thinking and was wondering if anyone has done this before or has any advice on how to run it and things to watch out for... i was thinking of putting on a scoop and running a customized air tube into the firewall. this would give a slight raise in hight over factory box and get cool air intake and a ram air. the only problem i really see is stopping water from getting into it when it rains. how does a snokel do this? if anyone has pics of the snorkel's method could you please post or link. anyone seeing a problem with this idea please fill me in with your 17 cents.

I've seen write-ups of people running a snorkel from the cowl under the windshield. That way water can drain out the bottom of the cowl vent and air can be brought in through there. Not sure if I explained that well, but I will try to find the writeup. Basically punching through the front of the firewall into the cowl opening under the windshield.

edit: I think this is the one...Cowl Intake
