Nice Job Man,
I've never regreted that upgrade and I'm 5'11 It's just sitting at a better level, and a bonus it gave me room to mount an amp under my seat knobs forward so I can adjust the level anytime right there:

Thanks...Yeah, I took my Jeep out for a quick ride today and I can see so much better...it feels so much more natural...I'm also planning on putting an amp under the seat once I figure out which amp I want.

When I went from my YJ to my TJ that's the first thing I noticed. The seats were really low! I am also doing this mod, I'm on speedymetals right now ordering Looks great, Great write-up!

I'm on the other end. I welded up new seat pedestals that are 2" lower. Now I look through about the center of the windshield height rather than the top 1/3.

I ordered the stuff today! http://http://www.speedymetals.com/c-8378-6061.aspx
4 pieces of square aluminum 6061 1" X 1.50" X 2.25"
4 pieces of the same aluminum cut 1" X 1.50" X 3.75" shipped to my door for $19.95.
Went to a hardware store and bough 2 of the grade 8 bolts (2-1/2") for the seat belt ends total of $3
+ 8 washers totalling $1.52.
I'm under $25 in this mod but I still need the other 6 metric bolts

The only thing I couldn't find was the metric grade 10.9 bolts? All they had were the black hardened bolts that said 10.9 on the tops but weren't gold like the other grade 8 bolts I bought. What's the difference between the gold and black bolts?

If they say 10.9 you should be good to go...color really doesn't matter too much as you can't really see the bolts :P

My 1" spacers work fine on my 2005 seats. The seat slides under the dash without hitting. It does slightly rub the visor up above but it still works just like when in the original location.

I did the seat riser mod on my 96 TJ. Only not with metal stock, but with some 3 inch body lift blocks (hard plastic) been on there for about a year and no problems. I guess I figured that if they were designed to hold the body then why not my body? Did the passenger seat with the full 3 inches for my G/F who is only 5'2 1/2, she loves them. Did the drivers side only 1 1/2" as I am taller, thought there might be an issue with bumping my head ( I'm 6'6'' ) but not yet, actually feels better. Only issue was the rear view mirror, so I flipped it. Guess it has held up pretty well, especially with the Crawlin' I do in AZ

I finished this a few days ago. I went with 1" high by 1.5" wide. The total cost for me was under $40. I finally got some pictures up of it all for you guys. The only thing I messed up was drilling the holes. I got a little drill happy and drilled them all out with the larger size so I went back, flipped the block around and redrilled. You can't see the extra holes once it was in the Jeep.
Here's the parts
[IMG][/IMG]
You'll need 2 of the grade 8 standard bolts for the seatbelt corner then 6 of the smaller bolts. Since I wanted the strongest bolts I could, I went with 10.9 grade which, 10.9 is the metric version of standard grade 8 bolts and they have 10.9 stamped on the head of the bolt. Grade 8 have 8 lines on the head of the bolt.
[IMG][/IMG]
The bolts holes for the blocks in the back are all the same measurements
[IMG][/IMG]
The ones upfront will be staggard
[IMG][/IMG]

Here's the drivers side with 1" risers on
[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]
Seat still functions completely the same
[IMG][/IMG]
[IMG][/IMG]
[IMG][/IMG]
The passenger side was exactly the same. I know there was a question about the seat going forward. Here's what it looks like. It touches but doesn't effect it at all with 1"
[IMG][/IMG]
I did notice that if you go too high you might have a hard time putting the window up and down.
[IMG][/IMG]
Here's both seats raised 1". Decent amount of room before it hits the roll bar.
[IMG][/IMG]
and last but not least here's a shot of the console. It looks like it normally does with no gaps.
