Thanks man! Yes, definitely start scanning craigslist for a nice little lincoln or equivalent MIG to start on. It takes a while but it's really fun once you kind of get the hang of everything. Also, look into getting a plasma cutter because they are just pure awesome haha.

Been doing the Craigslist scanning for a couple of weeks now. Problem is, where I live, people don't let loose of their tools too often. I'll find something, though. A plasma cutter would be a great pick up. I used to program CNC plasma cutters, and I would really like to build one of my own, in which case knowing how to weld would help out tremendously. The project possibilities would be just about endless with a CNC plasma cutter.

I just thought this pic looked cool haha

Anyways- got this old storage cart form work:

Ground off all of the rivets holding the panels on

Then cut the steel frame off of it

Then pretty'd it up with a flap wheel/grinder and clear coated it

Set everything on it

I still need to weld a handle onto it but it's pretty much done for all I care haha

Last night's project:

the hospital I work at was throwing this away because they couldn't figure out how to adjust it/upgraded or something. whatever, I took it home

Took it apart and thought for a second about adding this bad boy to it and making a height adjustable fab table but decided against it.

Ended up mounting the bench grinder to it and ta-da. Height adjustable mobile grinder with locking wheels!

Yea I had to tag a bunch of new fixed assets at a hospital we built last year and it's outrageous what vendors charge for stuff liek this. I tagged a "surgical" drill bit CASE (no bits) that was $600. Me and my buddy almost fainted. Gotta love having the construction dumpster close to my office though, I get stuff like this all the time.

Had a couple hours to mess around in the shop last night and made some progress on the can crushing monster.

pics- made a little track that will hang off the end of the wall mount just far enough to drop the can into a bin below when done and keep the plate on the rod in the same position everytime, also mounted the switch and rolled some aluminum grate scrap I had around it to help keep it in place. These welds have not been cleaned up at all and I built them up after the hot pass to try and make this thing as indestructible as possible haha. Will grind them down a little with a flap wheel later.

The last pic is just funny.

Dave, does that grate wrapped around the cylinder look familiar? You sent it to me in a scrap box!

So I've been getting water in my compressed air system lately and that's not helping too much with the plasma cutter so I came up with this:

1/2" copper tube with fitting adapters and two water trapsI'm going to move one of them to the end and put a 90 degree elbow with a T to supply the air system so it will "catch" the water better. This whole thing will be mounted to the window unit AC to get more of a cooling effect for the air.
