Hi there. That was taken 500 to 800 feet from the top of Thompson Mountain very near Creston, BC. It's already under feet of snow, now. The drive is very easy, even for low slung vehicles if you get lucky. Normally though, it is pretty easy to ruin even a low slung SUV wanna-be.
The pic is looking north-west and you can see Duck Lake and Kootenay Lake to the north.

This thread should be called "...new garage, hoist and lot redevelopement"
OK. Finally pics of the state of progress. We've spent a rather sizable amount on finishing/redeveloping 2/3 of our property.
It's amazing how under utilized our backyard was before. I mowed it and visitors camped on it, but if it was wet it was unusable. Not anymore! So the moral is imho, the budget on building ain't the whole thing!! Now I'm looking at heating electric vs natural gas. I did my own gas line plumbing and have a manifold with caps waiting for future gas stoves and garage heaters. I do have to bury a gas line, no big deal, but electric will cost a lot less AND I won't have to carve out a chimney hole somewhere in my nicely sided man-cave. On the other hand, I have 40 amps going to the garage and need 30 amps for an inexpensive overhead thermostatically operated furnace... What to choose? Electric or natural gas? Also- cement siding done. The stuff is heavy. Installed a high lift garage door motor, 3 remotes and digital keypad entry. I need to run a couple remaining circuits, insulate, and cement board the interior- did I say heavy stuff?? ;-) Here are 4 pics of my blood sweat toil and liberal bank account drainage ;-) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

You're from Creston BC? A fellow Canadian? Can I drive over and borrow your new garage and lift?
![]() Edit: I'd like to keep in touch jeepsterjc. If/when we make it out your way with my TJ, it'd be nice to wheel with someone that knows the area (and meet a fellow Canadian JF'er).

Very, very nice finished product sir
![]() I say go with gas. Simpler and generally more reliable and puts no more draw on your existing electric lines. |

Thanks. I grew up with a garage at the family house then when I moved from single to married and bought a property the first thing I built was a garage THEN the house. We left Canada for four years and on our return bought a little house without a garage. Thirteen years later and finally a garage. My wife doesn't even have to scrape her windshield in the morning with these frosty freezing temps we have now. This is a great thing!
Anyhow... I don't want to be "look at this!!! whoo hoo!!!" So I think this thread is over now, too. Thanks everyone who helped out with their time and ideas. They were all really appreciated.

Mild scratches? Those are my Jeeps tattoos. They all tell a story. The more, the better!

Well- I think this crazy quote I got deserves a mention... I'm was felling kind of tired from my real work and the cold so I phoned an insulating company for a quote to spray cellulose my raftered ceiling and walls- done before closing in.
The quote came in at $3500.00 Canadian. ![]() ![]() I felt more motivated and less tired after seeing my wife's expression and thinking about the wicked expense so I made two more calls. The local Canadian building supply store in town and to Home Depot in Idaho, just across the border. The local building supply shop was going to charge me more than $1000.00. ![]() The Home Depot's bill came in at $420 after exchange rates and taxes and this is for the rolled insulation in the "No Touch" pink sleeves- a much nicer product to handle and breath... So, I'm hiring a student to scamper around in those tight spaces and corners and I'll get the job done over a few afternoons. You've got to wonder how why the costs vary SO greatly.

You have to remember Home Depot is a huge company with a lot of buying power, they buy 100 times more product than a local builders supply company.

Not finished but close!
Well it is over a year since I started the garage build but it has been in use for various projects for about 8 months. The epoxy floor has taken a beating but I like it more than no coating. I have a scratch Scrambler build started with 1 ton axles, H2 rims with 39s, 4 corner coils, and in a day or three will be tearing the into the 1995 axles.
Check out the Lazy-Boy in the second pic!!! Oh yeah!!! I'll probably hire a student to help me finish the vapor barrier and cement board interior sheathing in a week or so.
