need help welding shackle mounts

whats up fellas still a beginner to welding but im making my bumper and im welding 3/4" shackle mount to my 3/16" rectangular box bumper...

i have a hobart handler 210 and i was curious should i be on the most powerful setting and concentrate mostly on the 3/4" and alittle on the 3/16"? i dont want to burn through the 3/16" so im not sure what setting to use i want to make sure i get plenty of penetration...

TIA

Jason

I'd say to just concentrate on both equal amounts. The key is to weld them on as many points as possible. Front, rear, top, bottom, whatever. But I have only built one bumper so far, and started on the second so dont take my word on it.

I'm not real familiar with that welder and it depends on if you're using gas or flux core wire but you'll want it turned up pretty hot and put about 2/3rds of the heat on the mount and about 1/3 on the 3/16th.

Are you welding the mount to the surface of the bumper or is the mount going through the bumper so it can be welded front and back?

Similar to this. This is my receiver but the D-ring mounts are welded the same way.

My bumper build begins on post 33 of the build thread in my sig; there are more pictures of d-ring mounts.

that is exactly how they should be welded in. Do not but weld them on. They should go thru the bumper.
As far as how to weld them, I would be close to highest setting but not all the way and start in the 3/4" and work into the 3/16" If you try and go 50/50 your chances of burning thru the 3/16 is greater.

I agree with most of your heat on the 3/4 and just wash it over to the 3/16. The 210 is a good welder. If you do butt weld the back side chamfer the D rings and reciever tube to get as much weld as possible.

Be careful what you put on them then if they are not welded through the whole bumper.
I know it "should" be strong, but no where near as strong as through welded.
They are only as strong as what they are welded too, meaning if they were even 2" thick, they would only be as strong as your 3/16 bumper they will be attached to.
i guess you didt get hurt on the price though huh?
