oh cool, maybe I will see it again. Where did you get the welds done? And how did you get up enough balls to cut your bumper cover? I think that will be the hardest part of doing this! I hope to do this very soon!

I welded the entire thing myself, except where the winch plate meets the brackets which I guess is where it matters the most, and pretty much the only welding besides the d-ring tabs and the light mounts along with the face. I brought it to a place in savage called custom welding, they ran two big beads for $40 and cut out one of the other d-ring tabs.

I got the balls to cut it from spending my ENTIRE spring break day to night on this thing...it had to be done. lol I will maybe finish it off and complete the bumper but not soon. The next thing on my list is probably jumping to 5.5" and 33' tires.

Going to work now, so ill talk to ya later.

How is it??

I was wondering how the winch/recovery mount has worked so far. Any problems? Have you used the winch much and how is that winch at pullin your ZJ? I have a 94 ZJ 5.2l and I'm looking at different designs of mounts to make mine from. Any info is great.

Peace Out,
Shawn

Hey shawn, its been working out flawlessly. Pulled out a few various cars from the ditch, pulled a dakota on 33's on dry pavement and made all 4 tires slide, same with an s10. I have pulled myself out of various situations, as well as a WJ on 35's. Also lots of shrubs for neighbors and small trees. Its working great

im local in mn too! im actually planning on copying your design and making it work.. how did you have to modify the stock bumper to make it fit in the end? is it 2 separate pieces or was there still connecting material in the middle..?

I just cut out the part of the factory bumper to clear it.... Stock bumper is still one piece, connected at the bottom still.

nice build man...i wanted to get one of the warn or iceland winch mounts for the front but everyone is saying they are no good...i have access to mig/tig and heli-arc welding equip and can get anything cut/fabbed/welded for free minus steel and hardware. What did the steel run you? Any modifications you would make to ur design if you had to do it again?? I have the kevins rad support too...

Tota cost - winch was right under $100. With all grade 8 bolts, 1.4 steel plate for mounts, and the whole winch mount itself.

If I had to change something, honestly I would not unless I knew I was building a bumper off it later. I have been running this ever since I built it and have no problems with it. I have pulled out a couple cherokees, WJ's, cars from ditches, trucks across pavement. Works like a charm. If I knew I wanted to build a bumper off it later I would have made it a bit taller, to help build the bumper into it.
