Im not completely happy that it still looks like a bumper up there. So I think I will shave part of the face down a lil. But with it painted, it looks ok, plus its strong, and completely out of my way.

Update 7/23/12: Its time I flip it over to give the passenger a lil more head clearance. Either that or give my passenger a helment< LOL. If I flip the bracket over I can cut out a hole in it for the speaker to face straight down, and the make a new simple CB mount bracket. There is room between the soft top and the new mount not to touch. This will give 2 1/2 inches of more head clearance, which my wife will appreciate.

Ok after running this set up for a lil while and my wifes head bouncing off of it a time or two. It was time to rethink this design. I wanted to flip it and keep the CB mounted whith just the face of it showing like before. So I took some measurments there was a way and I think it looks so much better and gives about 2 1/2 inches of extra head space. I did have to cut a hole for the speaker. This way I could still hear like it was before. This mount only cost me time so that is the best reason for doing it. If anyone wants to see more pictures just PM me.

One of the guys in our club had me make a bracket to do something similar. He wanted it to catch the footman loop holes and also screw to the underside of the frame.. did it from 1/8" plate for him..

Actually, I'm all about a mount that catches the overhead bars. I was kind of apprehensive about doing a "windshield mounted" bracket.. as I just don't know how well it will stand up to bumps and bangs. My buddy came to me with cardboard templates in hand, so it was simply a matter of doing them in CAD, cutting, welding, and powdercoating black. He gets to do the "beta-test" on it..
I like the idea of reusing the bumper for a mount though.. innovative.

Heres what I fabbed up for the price of 2 hose clamps. Used 1/2 square steel tube and a scrap piece of .040 aluminum.
I still need to clean it up a little and paint it.
I plan on attaching some MOLLE points to the rear part, add a CB speaker and some overhead lights.
