modifying my tire carrier bumper

I am planning to modify my TJM swing away tire carrier bumper. I don't like the current setup, also it is not legal here cause the tire carrier hinge covers the rear fog lamp and backup light. I just want make sure some items before I start. What carrier hinge is better. I originally planned to use this one:

http://www.atozfabrication.com/catal...ekit-p-34.html

And modify it to be able to attach it with a C-shape hinge receiver which I want weld to the bumper. Similar to this:

But then I found this:

Another nice idea I find. But is it same good as the other one with the massive hinge?

Another question is, what are the measurements of the massive hinge. Is the dome tube 4" x 2,5" or what? Measurements are nowhere mentioned unfortunately.

Thanks in advance for your inputs.

The first one looks a lot beefier.

Had some ideas and made two rough drafts.
First one is conventional swing out carrier style and I would have to modify my bumper completely to make it fit. Bumper is a TJM RB8 steel with spare tire receiver on both sides. So it is basically strong enough for my project. Of corse I will add material to make it more solid.

I forgot to mention what material I'd use on the first drawing.

# swing out hinge kit - strong version
# C-shaped hinge holder 5-6mm U-metal
# swing out is 60x50x3mm widened at the end for a TJ tailgate latch
# vertical support is 60x50x3mm and the tilted supports are both 50x50x3mm
# stoppers, supports and strike pin on the bumper

Second one is a little different from what is standard style.
# rubber bump stops are either on the carrier or on the hatch
# strike pin is on the hatch, mini bear claw latch in the carrier, operated by a YJ tailgate latch
# swing out hinge kit - strong version.
# C-shaped hinge holder 5-6mm U-metal
# slide support for vertical force and end stop on the bumper
# support for minor vertical force on the hatch mounted to the licence plate holes.

What do you think. First draft will work for sure, but will the second idea work too?

I want to make a tire carrier more or less in the same style you want. The look I would like to go for the ARB. Clean and the possibility of 2 swing out. I prefer your first drawing.

I don't know if you were baring your first drawing off this, but it looks very similar to the 25-sold AEV XJ rear bumper, here's a shot of one from EricsXJ:

The tire carrier hinge from the first picture is suppose to be much stronger than the rest, you can buy it already put together from rockstomper.com for $45 plus shipping.

Yes yesss! Once I saw a picture from this XJ with that bumper and that inspired me. I have another draft which comes a little closer to EricsXJ carrier. Do you have more pictures from that bumper??? I think I want do that style. I very much like it!!
