M416 trailer

Hi I just picked up a m416 trailer and I'm trying to match up the same rims my jeep has with the trailer but I want to have a spare on the trailer is it possible or is there any easier way to just buy the same tire mount that my yj has and just bolt it to the back of the trailer and in theory it will look similar to the jeep ? Is this even possible to do ? If so would the walls to the trailer be strong enough to hold it up ? I'm trying to run 32"

Pretty sure a caravan real axle will have the same bolt pattern

What? I'm not talking about an axle I'm talking about the spare mount!

There are a few fab companies that I've seen that sell spare tire mounts as builder parts for tire carriers on bumpers. It would require some welding though.

Basically something like this

Again would require some work though.

That's a plate for a spare tire mount. The 3 holes are for wheel studs and the back of the plate gets welded to tube.

AtoZ fab sells a swing out kit for around $100. You have to fab the main part, but it gives you a spindle, handle, backplate, ect.

I was going to link it but their site appears to be down at the moment.

Not sure on the wall thickness on the trailer but I'd venture to guess that you'd have to sandwich them with some plate for strength.

I was saying if you swapped the original axle out for a caravan axle then you would have the same bolt pattern as the jeep.

Oh ok I see now that shouldn't be that difficult. As to the axle I've thought about that but then I lose my brake on the trailer

You can either use a spare tire mount from a jeep with the same bolt pattern or get one from a trailer store, you will need to reinforce the bed end, I used flat stock on the inside and then bolted it through, I tried the rear of the trailer but noticed a bit of sway if the trailer is empty at highway speed, I switched it to the front and it put the weight over the tongue, I didn't notice that it was on the trailer when driving, I then made a mount underneath the trailer infront of the axle. Now you don't even notice it and the trailer is very easy to move around when it's not hitched.

Sites back up, here's the kit I was talking about.

I built a similar frame to what's on the TJ in their pics (no pics of mine, ended up not using it and giving it to a friend). Cost me about $15 for 2x2x.25 tube for it and took about 2 hours to cut, weld, and cap.

I'd run some flat bar on the backside to bolt through, but other than that I don't really see why not.
