Here's how I did mine. Sorry for the crappy cell pics, I'm at work.

Welded a washer and rod to a bolt

Welded a nut to the backside of the tab

No rattles and stays tight

Have you read through this thread???? Tons of great info in there.

This is the one I got.... DE STA CO 341-R Pull Action Clamp with Threaded U-Bolt -

The one above is also a proven method, it's quite similar to the ones A to Z fab uses.

no rattles until I backed into a tree

take a look in my gallery, I built my carrier so it would open with the tailgate. I used two links with heim joints to a simple bracket bolted on the tailgate where the stock carrier used to be. it works very well, I had no rattles until I backed into a tree pretty hard and tweaked the tail gate a little. The rattle is almost not even noticeable. I think I need to just flex the tail gate back straight and life will be quiet again....... All in all I am very happy with the design, it easily supports my tire and my 200 pounds with no problems.... what I like best is that there is not another latch that has to be opened just to get into the back of my Jeep......

9500 lb. milemarker winch, kilby gas tank skid, home made rear bumper and tire carrier, lite dot taillights, more to come!!!!!!

Integrity is a rare find!
