Since "Blitz USA" closed their doors, the red Blitz bases are getting harder/more expensive to find.

On my own bumpers, I've kind of switched over to the Rotopax Gas Can. It's a very simple (albeit somewhat expensive) gas can setup. I simply cut a mount on the Plasma Table, bend it on the brake, and weld in a little gusset to strengthen it. The mount allows the can to be rotated for mounting in 45deg increments (although something similar could be drilled for a single mounting position). By having a "clock pattern" for mounting, the mount can be used on either side of the "A" Frame.. or 2 mounts used for dual mounting..

I plan to mess with the setup and maybe incorporate shovel/axe mounts using Quick Fist straps..

Anyhow.. this is the first version, I've since changed it up a little.. made it better, stronger.. faster I've done somthing similar to my Hi Lift Mounts too.. I'll shoot/post more pics this weekend if you like

Thanks Besrk I have been following your build. I would love to go the rotopax route myself and I still may do so. It's just hard to shell out a few hundo for a gas can. I like the nostalga of the Blitz can but hate the bulkiness and weight of them. I like your design!! Thanks for posting.

Mine were a lot of work, but I have been extremely pleased with how they turned out:

http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f37/b...riers-1025824/

If I had it to do over, I would have made them out of stainless instead of mild steel. At the time, I wasn't sure how well my idea was going to work out, so I didn't want to spend the extra money on a sheet of stainless. Otherwise they are perfect.

Thanks for the ideas and comments. I did manage to get some more welding done on the bumper. I'm still working on my latch mechanism I want it to be strong and beefy. I'm using a old curved tractor wrench as my handle for the latch. I'm taking my time so it comes out right. More to come stay tuned.

Thanks!! That means a lot coming from you. I just hope it works good and doesn't rattle loose.

Finished welding the wrench on. It works great drove it around with the tire on and no movement at all. I'm really pleased!!

forumrunner_20121023_091526.jpg

I mocked up where the can will sit and should be burning the mount together real soon. Then on to paint. I really appriate all the insight and ideas I received. I just may do a build thread for my bumper.
(This bias ply tire is 80+ pounds)

Of course I will be adding a spring loaded pin for a hold open and some clevis mounts.

Simple mounts on either side if the tire, on the carrier.

ran a 2nd cross piece to lets the cans have a better place to sit.

add the can mounts and hit with some bed liner.

Finished from the inside

does not hang into the bed.

Stealth from the rear.
That is awesome!! I don't have a need to carry extra fuel, but I almost want to make this and by a can or 2 just to use for the mowers and such. Keep it out of the inside...

Hi Eddie, are you selling the Rotopax mounts individually? Thanks, Stan

I have a Rock Hard rear bumper and had these made to fit it. I wanted something I could lock. I came up with the design and the guy who built them for me tweaked my idea a little . They don't rattle , move around and the bumper handles the weight. I recently added the bars In between to make it match my roof rack . I've off-roaded quite a bit with them and don't even notice the added weight anymore.
