How does it secure ?

Looks like a threaded shaft in the rear.

Nice job, great idea, some company will probably steal the idea and make a million on it.

The tire carrier I have is about 9" X 6" on the mounting side. There are three bolts that hold the tire to the carrier. The other two holes in the rim are used to hold the jerry can holder. I just drilled two more holes in the tire carrier mount. The 5" bolts are threaded and the whole thing is secured in the back. I used 1 1/4" black pipe for the 'offset shims'.

No problem, that's why people post things here. To find an easy and inexpensive way to do things.

Seriously....

Nice mod though, I think I might try to do something like that with the tire carrier since I carry my spare inside

I'll post a picture later with the gas can on. I don't lose any departure angle with this set-up. Yea, if that were really me in that position........my wife would not be sitting inside.

I'd be to worried about getting rearended and turning into a roman candle to put a jerry can on.

Although I'd love to have one. Maybe on a roof rack or something?

You should put a nice remote release setup on there so you can teach those tailgaters a lesson.
