Impact-absorbing bumper system

Think this is possible? Would it work? Why hasn't it been tried before?
(hard to read, goes as follows:
Frame, Nitrogen Bumpstops, Bumper)
Not really to scale, but you should get the idea.

Sorry but it has been done before...most small cars have these "impact absorbing bumpers". That is why they teach new firefighters to stay away from the front and rear bumpers of a car on fire! Why would you want one on your jeep anyway? Just curious.

When they say crash absorbing bumpers they usually mean a cavity filled with foam. I'm not putting this on my Jeep (yet), just a question I've wanted answered for quite a while. Cars are built with crumple points in the frame, TJs have them too I believe; which is, in effect, a shock absorber. This would be the I'm just wondering why this technology (nitrogen-charged shocks in bumpers) isn't more widely implemented. As for no towing by the bumper, I could easily design a limiter just like droop limiters on axles. Why would I want it on my Jeep? Safety. As it is, if I hit a tree or concrete barrier my frame would be tweaked at best. Remember it's not speed that kills, it's the sudden stop. Nitrogen bumpstops are designed to absorb the entire weight of the vehicle so things don't break and then return to normal length. I think they'd be perfect for this design.
