How wide to make tube fenders?

I'm starting to build my tube fenders tomorrow and I was wondering if one of you guys that is running a 12.5 wide tire on a wheel with approx 3.75 inches of BS could take a msmt for me.

Need a measurement from the outside edge of a TJ hood to where the outside of the tire would be. Take the msmt inline with the center of the wheel.

I have 10.5 tires now on stock rim with 5.5 inchs of back spacing and could do the math easy enough, but I would rather have a real world measurement to work with.

Thanks guys.

Well, I winged it, but made plenty of progress.....

Since I'll be using this same tire & Rim combination for the next 5 years or so ( once I get the new tire in there in a few weeks or ) I decided to just cover the existing tires.

Final rough-in of Passenger side. The drivers side should be quicker since all the design decisions have been made and bends & angles figured out. Then to finish the welds and do some minor trimming & blending and it's time for sheet metal & paint.....

Tube Master testing his tack welds.......

All I can say is wow! Sure helps to have someone that knows what they're doing. I didn't know what the hell was going on 1/2 the time and was glad when I could at least help by notching the tubes.

Well the passenger side is essentially done. Trimmed & plugged what needed to be done.

The drivers side was coming together real nice and by the time we called it quits on Friday night, there was just one last tube to tack/weld into place.

Whats left:
- final trimming and blending
- start making the templates for the sheetmetal
- get the metal covers made and weld them into place.
- seal and paint the fenders
- install new turn signals, marker light and add removeable mud-flaps.

There's other things to do before the next club run, but it should be ready in time.

Well, got some garage time today and got both sides mocked up with cardboard templates for the sheetmetal. Now to take them in and see about either getting the piecs made or jsut getting the pieces roughed out into the basic sizes for me to finish and weld.

As an added bonus, I have the 15 degrees coverage in the front of the tire I need to be legal! Just need mudflaps on the back.

Very nice man, I'm going to be starting this over the winter. I'm using my my buddy's Jeep to mock things up since I'll need mine to dd, and then I'll be making him a set as well.

Well after doing a bunch of family type stuff, I finally got into the garage again tonight. Wanted to do the sheet metal, but didn't have time for that, so I'll do that tomorrow.

I did finally get the side marker/signal lights mounted and wired in. Didn't take long to figure out which wires to cut & splice, but it took a long time to do it right and hide the wiring so it doesn't get in the way and looks neat and tidy. Anyway, lights work great & will be plenty bright enough.

Ended up ordering a set of JK lights last week to mount in the front of the grill. Should be in on Monday. Hopefully have them installed by mid week.

Here's some pics......

Yes the light looks lower on the passenger side. It's not. The decal is a little crooked.

Little more progress. I was hoping to be ready for paint this weekend but a situation at work killed my weekend from Thursday on. All I managed to get done was get the front running/signal lights in and working. Lights are form a JK and after using a holesaw, they fit real snug.

Also decided to change the shape of the sheetmetal a little to let some of the tube show. No pics of that yet.

And yes I know, the winch & winch plate need paint.

Would have got more done but I was being swarmed by mosquitoes! Little bastards sure are aggresive. Had to give up and go inside.....

Almost done. No pics yet but the top and back panels are welded in place and I'm just finishing up trimming the side panels to get them to fit properly for welding. Hopefully tomorrow. Then seam sealer, undercoating and paint.

Fenders installed! ;D ;D ;D
The hole in the side is an access hole to get to the fender to body bolt. I'll have to get more sheetmetal and make some removeable covers.

Used seam sealer, then rubberized undercoating and then painted with black primer. I'm going to have to clean and paint the rest of the fenderwell now too!

Shown with the new 33x10.5-15 BFG MT KM2s on the stock powder coated rims.
