Ok...I'm in need of expert opinion. To the interwebs!
So I'm welding up my front clevis plates. 1/2" A36 base plates with 1" 1018 tabs. Ground off all mill scale, set the miller 210 up on max settings, 25cfh, .030 70s6 wire.
Root pass went perfectly. Turned settings down a bit for fill and cap:
Waited a long time between beads to help avoid heat buildup/distortion. Wire brushed the living crap between, with a new brush.
One side went great:
I go to weld up literally the last pass on the last joint...
...and I get THIS!
Wtf???? Gas flow is great, nozzle is clean, part was clean and just warm to the touch before the pass. Used a push angle, 3/8" stickout, went slow.
This doesn't even look like a "normal" oxidized weld. Anybody know what this is and how to avoid it?
