Has anyone built a rear stinger

Just wondering if anyone has built their own rear stinger (perminent or drop down) and could post up some pics and info.

Ive tried searching without too much luck.

Right now Im really debating doing a permanent stinger (spot for rear winch at the bottom and storage rack a bit higher up). Im trying to figure out the best way to mount this. I was thinking weld to bumper and crusher corners. Only problem is body lift, and strength at the crusher corners. My other option is to wait until my jeep gets trail rig status in May and tie it into a custom cage.

Besrk (or anyone else for that matter)
what do you think of the idea of a permanent one like I mentioned above. If I do this I would most likely get the bumper now (custom) then weld the stinger on sometime later when I remove my tailgate. I like the idea that it allows for a rear winch without compromising departure angle. Also gives a spot for some storage. Spare would go in the back or cage mouned

Hmmm.. honestly, if I wasn't going to make it pivot down.. I don't think I'd even bother mounting one. A rear bumper or bracket is easy enough to make and mount a winch to. Or.. just mount the winch in the bed so you don't lose departure angle. The only reason I might consider a rear stinger would be if I did a lot of really steep climbs that stood the rig up on its butt. If that's the case though, I'd move my rear axle back and run tires big enough to go past the bumper.. A fixed stinger in the rear seems like it would make it a PITA to access the rear bed area. However, our rigs are our artwork. If you like the rear stinger concept.. do it.. and then show it off. Of course, you'd have to stand the rig on its *** and take a pic for us...

Dr Hook made a nice rear bumper with tire carrier and winch mounting plate. Might check that out for some ideas. You could probably easily make a stinger for it but I would not make it permanent. Can you imagine having to lift a large spare up over the side braces.

Said spare wouldnt be on the stinger

Im thinkin of doing it. Would the crusher corners be strong enough (I want it to be practical). And Besrk bigger tires and strech in time

I have mine welded to the crusher corners with a mash plate soon to be installed as well for extra support. It does swivel downward and I will test it out Oct 5th in Hot Springs. I'll give an update then.

Would it be on the outside, or where would you mount if at all?

Got any pictures?

This is interesting cause I really like the idea of being able to protect the spare (when I go bigger) and a stinger in the rear cant be a bad idea I just figured I would always just use a type of pin latch setup on each side with a hinge on the bottom. Then if for some reason my girl was driving and got a flat it would be easier for her or any smaller person with a large tire to put it on and jack it up some how. Or at least get the good tire down.

Scotch, it would either be mounted on the cage or sitting on a trailer with my tow rig (would be bead locks if I do this). Also to keep a low COG cage would be angled from the middle pillar down to the bottom at the back of the jeep... similar to the Yj stock cage and tire mounted on that.

Anyone else? I will hopefully be starting this in January. Right now I'm thinking about making the tailgate still accessable through the stinger. I think Im just going to wing it and see what happens. Any last suggestions?
