Has anyone added flares to 0" flare tube fenders?

So, I have the potential to pick up some tube fenders locally for pretty cheap, however, they are 0" flare, which I'm still on the fence about...

I feel as though it should be pretty easy to measure up some sheet metal with the desired flare length, and mount directly on top of the tube fender. Then measure out another piece of tube and bend/weld as needed.

I'm just curious to see if anyone has done this and how the overall experience went.
