Got Bored today. my Mock Roll Cage
Before anyone says anything I got very bored today, this is what it lead to. I had this RC TJ body laying around with a roll cage and I decided to play around a bit and mock up the cage I plan to make for my YJ. Boredom does strange things to people. So I got me some straws and a hot glue gun and started playing around. My only gripe the cage and body aren't to scale. so the bars are a bit off. the green part represents the stock main hoop that i will be building off of, and the straws are what i plan to add. so here it is
top rear view: ![]() Drivers side view ![]() Front view ![]() Passenger side view ![]() Another top view ![]() And yes, I am fully aware I have too much time on my hands[ ]some changes for the real deal will be the use ofsset plates instead of the small angle bars in the top corners in some locations. Would have been to hard to make em and glue em in with the hot glue gun so I just used chunks of saw instead.

Good idea to mock up your cage with a model instead of wasting tube. One suggestion. Instead of running 4 straight spreaders from the B pillar to the A pillar (main pillar to your windshield pillar), I'd recommend two outer spreaders, one center spreader and two angled spreaders from the center of the B pillar out to the corners of the A pillar. That'll help prevent the front pillar from collapsing in on a hard front pillar corner hit during a roll.

the reason for the two center spreaders is I plan to fab an overhead console that will mount between them. Also my A pillar isn't a hoop like the B pillar. its hard to tell because the straws kinked, but the outer bars are bent from the b-pillar and are connected side to side with a top bar and the dash bar

Now all you need is the machine from that honey I shrunk the kids movie. Reverse it and have it turn plastic to steel and you're set!

Is there any side to side bracing? On a flop there will be alot of force applied to the side of the cage. You might want to add some kind of cross brace behind the front seats to help tie the sides of the cage together.
