Front axle Jack saddle

Jacking the rear axle is pretty easy, just place the jack saddle under the diff and lift. Trying to lift the front requires a few more gymnastics due to the offset pumpkin. So puttering in the garage today, I whipped up a solution.

Started with some scrap. This was a fender bracket for a HEMTT truck that I fished out of the scrap metal bin years ago. It's incredibly heavy, with a wall thickness of over 1/4".

I didn't get any progress shots, but this is what a came up with. I didn't spend much time with a grinder, but did slap a little rattle can paint on it to cover the ugliness. I notched tube to accept the approximate shape of my dana 44 diff. The angle iron locates the driver's side.

Here's how it fits on the jack.

And one last shot of it in action. The lift point is exactly centered on the axle, and rock steady.

That's pretty cool, I don't understand the real need for it but it is cool & looks likes it works very well.

Pretty sweet.

Wushaw, it makes it so he can lift up the entire front end at once instead of having to jack up one side, set the jack stand, lower the jack, slide it over to the other side, jack up that side, and then set the other jackstand. with his nifty invention, it is place cradle in jack, slide jack under the center, jack it up, place 2 jack stands under the axle and lower. Done.

Now I gotta go make one up...

I hate jacking up my front end because of the gymnastics involved. I can't use I hilift, because I run out of jack before I run out of suspension, even with straps to limit droop.

Problem.

Scrap on hand.

"light bulb!"

Time and effort.

Problem solved.

Cost: nothing.

Winning!

Next steps...

Patent.

Market.

Profit!

More winning!

I like it. You fixed something that was a PITA to you at no cost. What's not to like? And I have to admit, I never realized the cup on my large floor jack just lifted out. I've thought of something similar with my smaller floor jacks, but the cup is not removable on them. Thanks!

Thanks all for the comments. I realize my "tool" isn't a necessity but it does make things easier/faster. And with my Jeep, 'Vette, wife's car, buddy's supercharged Silverado, and his shi-box Saab all vying for attention anything I can do to make life faster/easier (work smarter) helps.

A made a simple lift attachment for my Corvette years ago (which IS a real bear to get up in the air). The Vette in independent rear suspension but the rear exhaust runs right under the diff. The attachment slips between the exh pipes to contact the dif. THAT'S a game changer! (And one of the big Corvette suppliers does sell something similar.)

The Jeep one was just something I thought about for a while and finally got around to doing while the welder was out. Genius, no. Good idea, maybe. Now it's up to one of you to make a BETTER one.

PS Now I can rotate tires like a NASCAR pit crew

As do I but I tried the HL thinking it must be easier, but sadly it was even more work. I have a gravel driveway so dragging the floorjack from side to side to do the front end simply sucks.
I envy you guys with them newfangled smooth concrete driveways...
