TF904s were used in the earlier XJs with the GM V6, weren't they? Do the Jeep Speed rules still state that the rigs must use an XJ trans?

Yep, from my understanding it was used in 85-86 XJ/MJ with the 2.5L and 2.8L according to some web sources. I do know of another guy using one so no probs with legal, they do need to be XJ trans. I have to figure out the VSS as there is only a hole and I need the signal for the ECM to retard timing etc(according to Benny at Hesco). Hopefully it won't be too much of an issue.

Blah blah blah blah.

umm, just read the whole thing...and its about 4 am. Haha, anyways wow. The whole time reading I was thinking I could do this for so much cheaper (If I had any idea how to weld of course!). But then I read the part where you say it doesent matter if it can hold up, but if it can hold up for a long time.

dam, If you had like rough Country shocks they would blow up in like 10 min or less!!

Make sure you throw on one of those 50 paint jobs. I always like the dark maroone with the chrome grill.

Wow must be west coast time on this forum! almost 8!

Wow...
Just read this build cover to cover. I am very impressed with the amount of thought, work, planning etc that you have into this amazing little truck. Probably one of the nicest builds of ANY vehicle I have seen....

Congrats, and hope to follow this one to completion. I love race classes that the average guy (with many thousands of dollars/hours to build and fab and an understanding family) can compete in.

Wicked man, all I can say is Wicked man!!

THANKS! much appreciated. Still working on it but it has taken the back burner to life and family for now. I would take some better pics but right now it is tucked in an alley with another POS, and my trailer parked behind it so I can't easily pull it out, soon enough, just about done! Appreciate the support, it has been a long hard road but will be worth it the first time I pull it off the trailer!

Blah blah blah blah.

THANKS!

4wd would entail me matching the gear ratio in the 9" rear, so the hpd30 had to go as you can only go as deep as 4.88, and that is not enough. I am hopefully picking up a d44 next weekend to start working on, so then we will be able to run 4wd. It does add a bit more weight and really would only be necessary on a few of the courses, the majority would be ran in 2wd.

After pulling the aw4/231 and putting in the 904, I am amazed at the weight difference. I can lift the tf904 myself, while the aw4/231 is way hard to lift with even two guys, I'll see if I can weight them one day for reference but it is WAY lighter. The VSS from the AW4 popped right in and the gears even mesh for the speed sensor...something I wasn't expecting. Next thing is take apart the rear spring packs again and cycle it really well so we can get a new driveshaft, resecure all the fluid lines, then we are off!
