dana 35 insurance trail tool

so i have a dana 35 in my yj. I run 33's and have no intention of swapping it until it goes pop,,that being said i wanted to be prepared for when it does,,or if someone elses explodes,,,,,

i saw this tool and like it,,but not for 100 bux

http://www.offroadtrailtools.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=140

i figured i could make it cheaper..so i went to home depot and bought this,,total 23 bux including spray paint

parts are: four eyebolts///2 locking links//one 42" piece of 3/4 inch pipe (longer if you have bigger tires)//two twelve inch sections of one inch pipe,,,

mock up

finished product welded up,,,,,,,cheap insurance,,

I saw a similar setup on the trail... they used a tree branch and rachet straps

^^^^^^

Yeah, but the tree branch will rub your tire. This will roll.

I wish I had one of those!

Pretty slick..

You could use stop collars (with set screws) to make the rollers adjustable for different size tires.

I may have to tinker with something like that to bring along in my trailer for the guys in our club with D35s.. maybe make it a out of 1.25" DOM with 1.5" DOM sleeves.. that would be plenty tough.

That log/strap trick always reminds me of Fred Flintstone's car with the log holding the front and rear axles..

Would anybody mind explaining how this works? What does it do?

The rollers on the side of the allow the tire to roll against it while it is spinning.

The bar just holds the axle/rim/tire from backing out of the axle tube in the mean time.

When c-clip axles break, the axle has a way of walking straight of the tube, tire and all. Not really good when you're trying to get home :P

if anyone uses the tree branch method ever (i have helped people do it a few times) just grease the side of the tire. this will help save the tire from getting messed up. also a lower PSI in the tire will help save it from getting that beaten up.
