Custom Rock Sliders for Dummies
I've always wanted some nice sliders, but I have no Fab skills, and I don't want to spend $400 for a nice set.
Lucky for me, I've been doing design work for a metal shop for the past 10 months, and I've made friends with the shop manager. All I had to do was design them, and he will get them laser cut and bent.
So heres the rough design...pretty basic.
And heres my flat pattern layout...
The lip that sticks out on the bottom is to tie my cage into.

Since we don't have a tube bender in the shop, I have arranged to get the tube work done by the guy who did my cage.
I'm pretty exited about the project and they will hopefully be cut tonight, and bent sometime this week.
Heres a picture of our laser...
More updates coming soon...
I have been waiting for these to get on the laser schedule for over a month now...looks like today is my day.

Here's some pictures of the parts fresh off the laser... hope they can get bent tomorrow, then I can take them home.
Forgot to mention they are 3/16" thick.
I'm going to countersink the holes and then they'll be ready for the tube step and paint.

Here is a cardboard mock up of the boat side sliders I am thinking about.
Obviously, it will be mounted to 3/16" steel. I had the shop brake mine already. 6" up and 8" into the underbody.
Let me know what you think.

Looks like a great design.
I don't know how much abuse you plan to throw at these sliders but if they were mine I'd add one more piece of bracing with the 1 1/2 like this:

That would look pretty cool, you dont see that too much. I think it would be nice. I still think I prefer the tube design though.

Good point...thanks for the advice.
I will add 1 extra brace to make it stronger.

Yes I am pretty lucky...only problem is after I think of something I want I usually have to wait 3-4 weeks for it to make its way to the laser. We are always super busy, but its worth the wait.

Yeah, I like the tube design myself, but I just see it too much. So I thought I'd go with something a little different.

I'm liking that alot. What about running that forward part up to blend in with the factory flare?

Judging by the length they are wheel well to wheel well, correct?

BESRK,
That's the plan. It was just a quick fit to see how it looks.
Plans are flatfender design to match and rear armor with fenders as well.
That mock up is 48" end to end going on wheel well to wheel well armor.
Will let you all know how it comes out.

Sorry, forgot to mention that, they are actually going to butt up to the rear flare, and go under the front flare and past it. In other words, theyre only wheel well to wheel well in the front. I only did them this way in case I ever get tube fenders in the front, then my sliders wont end up being too short.

good thinking on bending the tube upwards. Its a great design and has worked very well for me. I can jack the whole vehicle up with the ones I did
I agree with the other guys, you do need a few more braces in there
