CJ7 with a Cummins Turbo Diesel

This is my 1984 CJ7 that I put in a 3.9 liter Cummins turbo diesel, an NV4500 and IH Scout axles front and rear. Click on the link, and check it out. I hope the URL works. But this is the project that I worked on for seven months during pretty much my entire senior year of high school. It turned out good. What do you think?

Here it is

hey that looks like a pretty sweet setup, you did a great job. I bet you love the torque on her now! And whats great is you can up the pressure on the turbo and do propane injection and whatnot, with diesels the possibilities are endless. Great Job!

The diesel weighs about 700lbs. with all the accesories, oil and flywheel. I was surprised because you can't really tell it weights that much. The engine is basically a 6BT (the engines in the diesel Dodge Rams) but 2 cylinders less. I'd like to put an intercooler on it. Also there isn't much room between the oil pan and front axle which is why I'm thinking to do a spring over conversion.

I got the engine from a heavy equipment dealer up in Somers, CT. I got the transmission from advanced adapters, it was so easy to order from them everything i got from them fit like it should. I haven't made any mods to the engine yet but i am thinking of an intercooler and maybe turning up the rotory pump. For now im going to work on the spring over conversion with air bag suspension in order to fix the oil pan/differential clearance problem.

Wow!

That is what I'd love to do to my TJ! The CTD with the NV4500 is right up there in the book of ultimate combos (mine). What about a Dana 70 up front and 80 in back? ...hehehe!

Nice looking rig, nice looking gal, and a BHAF to boot!

Yea Dana 70 and 80 would awsome, i went to auto zone and just picked out the biggest air filter they had, its only 16 dollars and its as good as any. I'll have to add some more pictures of the 3" straight exhaust and the engine bay. With all this talk of BHAF diesel and Dana 70/80 you don't happen to have a Dodge Ram mudflapper, do ya? hahaha
If anyone knows how to add pictures straight to the post rather than linking them to another website, let me know id really appreciate it.

...kind of obvious eh Ya know, I have had it for a year now and still no pictures of it yet! Makes an excellent TJ tow truck and an impressive grocery getter. I would LOVE to have a CJ or TJ with a rattling Cummins in it. DAMN SWEET!

... use the IMG code http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/misc.php?do=bbcode#imgcode to have your pictures pop up here. I have an account with a image hosting site, and I just link 'em so they pop up on any board I desire. It runs me 15 bucks a year with 1k kb of storage. I could use a free site, but I find them to be very reliable (zero problems) for the past 4 years.

Great looking Jeep like the conversion. What kind of $ did that put you back. Hey I would love to see this thing, I'm putting an NV4500 in my jeep real soon and want to take a look at your setup. I'm in CT as well in Manchester. Are you by chance going to the Stafford swap meet this weekend with the Jeep?

This is cool, I was thinking that in a few years when my 4cyl dies I would do a new liberity diesel swap. it's the only little diesel I could think of.

I bet that 3.9 makes some killer torque. I think that the new 2.8 makes 230-260 ft-lbs. I would think that the 3.9 makes a great trail motor.

Love for diesels.

Awesome swap dude!!
What's the hp/torque output for the 3.9L? Surely a stump pulling mofo that the V-8 guys would envy.
