Hey that's a great first weld, you must have read some manuals/instructions before you did that one. Heck I wish all of my welds looked that good.

haha.. Thanks Jerry. In my platoon we have a few welders and machinist. So I had a little help. Had some junior Marines teach me something for a change. Ran quite a few beads on flat scrap before I graduated to the joints. Next to learn is vertical welds. I tried once. Wow that seems more complicated. Then off to bending and notching tube. Give me a few weeks for those pics.

That weld would look even better if you had prepped the base metal properly. Just as important as learning to run a bead.

very true. I wire wheeled some scrap down to bare metal yesterday and man did they look clean. I am using the spoolmatic gun right now and it seems harder to use than the little hand gun. But figured I would practice with both.
